What can I expect when seeing a psychologist?

Seeing a psychologist for the first time can bring up a range of emotions such as nervousness or anxiety. This is OK and quite normal, and your psychologist will work with you without judgement to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.
During your first visit, your psychologist will take a history of your presenting problem and explain the therapy process. Together you will devise a plan to move towards your goals. The standard duration of a session is approximately 50 mins.
If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, bring this and your GP referral to the first session to claim the Medicare rebate on the day.

What are your Fees?

Sellick Psychology is a private billing clinic. This means that there will be an out-of-pocket cost for consultations, with rebates available for clients eligible for Medicare referrals, or for those with private health insurance. Please call us to confirm the scheduled fee for your psychologist. Please also see here for further information.

How many consultations will I need and what is the length of appointments?

The number of consultations needed varies from client to client. Currently, Medicare subsidises a maximum of 10-session per calendar year when you are referred by your GP under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, however, the number of sessions you have is dependent on a range of circumstances and can be more or less. We recommend working collaboratively with your psychologist to ensure the length of your therapy is suited to you and tailored to your needs.

All appointments are 50-minutes in length.

Do I need a referral?

No, a referral is not necessary to see a psychologist. However, if you are eligible for a Medicare referral you will receive a rebate for sessions attended (please see our ‘fees and rebates’ section for more information).

Do you offer Telehealth?

Yes, our practice offers telehealth. We recommend that if you are engaging with telehealth services to find a quiet and private space as a means of protecting your confidentiality.

When can I schedule appointments?

Our opening hours are 9.00am to 5pm (AEDT/AEST Monday to Friday). We can also offer late sessions for those wanting an appointment at 5pm. After hours surcharge fees apply.
